Final Curtain | Overview

Hamburg / Germany
Final curtain for Passage Cinema in Hamburg's city center: Its doors first opened in 1913 in Mönckebergstraße, the city's busy shopping street. It survived two world wars, its owners changed quite a few times, but the doors never closed. Today's owner Cinemaxx, however, decided to shut down the beautiful movie theatre for rather vague reasons. Visitor numbers were fine as Passage had devoted customers, some of them loyal to the place for decades. One night in November they had to say goodbye to their favourite cinema, along with a commited crew of movie enthusiasts.
